Hi, I’m Kate!

I created a single, consistent header and footer, with personalization built in and designed to work on any tech stack, for a portal that sees 110,000 daily visitors. Teams each own a piece of the portal on their own stack, and until this launched, that meant users met nine different headers, three with no way back to home. I won buy-in from product leaders to build it as a global component. It launched on schedule and was adopted by a majority of product areas.

I set the product vision and designed a scalable student portal homepage that breaks a large amount of personalized information into small, prioritized pieces: what’s urgent first, then what’s next. I created a hierarchy for every type of message and tested it with users over 14 studies and production tests. Moving alerts inline saw about twice the engagement of pop-ups and changed how the portal delivers messages. 82% of users in the initial opt-in test chose the new experience over the existing one.

I turned an overlooked resource hub into active work and coached the designer, who reshaped it into a system for finding help. His idea put resources inside the tools students already use and was designed so search, agentic chat, and references all started with a single source of truth.

I designed creative and culturally appropriate greeting cards, celebrating both Islamic and Christian holidays, to be shared with the university community and beyond. This one’s just for fun, so there’s no case study. Enjoy!
